INFORMED DECISIONS – DAY VS INTRA-DAY VS SWING TRADING

Same with Day Trading….; what would be the correct term?

If we do some research, a few definitions and words are given to the same trading practice with very slight differences.

Day trading – involves actively buying and selling assets within the same day, trying to capitalize on short-term changes, and trading, which means buying and selling assets on the same day. Intraday trading – is also known as Day Trading.

Swing trading – involves taking trades that last a couple of days up to several months to profit from an anticipated price move. Swing trading exposes a trader to overnight and weekend risk, where the price could gap and open the following session at a substantially different price.

Looking at the above, we can summarize that Day Trading involves taking trades for one or more days, sometimes a week or longer, until the trend has played out and profit has been made. Easy enough.

We generally keep between 2 to 14 days and trade a signal chart, aiming for that next Target Point and adapting the stop loss along the way.

The adaptive stop loss cannot be highlighted enough – extremely important! Think about mountain climbing. As we go higher, we need to insert belays, carabiners, and pulley devices with the rope while kicking in our crampons to ensure we are secure and do not fall. It’s a safety net – same with stop losses. We cannot DAY TRADE without them.

This changes the game and gives proper risk management – these types of “safety nets” have saved the patient traders’ financial life many times.

Everyone has opinions – informed and uninformed – and a frequent one heard all around is trading is like gambling. Like mountain climbing is gambling … why not…O yes, we have the protective gear….sure there is a risk – but we determine our safety.
